Amerigas Propane Review
TANK RENTAL
In the past my tank rental was free based on the amount of gas I buy. Now, I just found out that the tank rental is charged annually regardless of the amount of gas purchased. The contract states that they can change the rental agreement without notice. AND, they charged it without notice! Just sent a bill with no explanation of the change.
I called and there is nothing I can do because that was a company wide decision. I ask if that is how they treat customers that stay with them when they could not supply gas and would not even answer the phone. I am changing suppliers.
My commercial account did not change!

Amerigas Gas Tank Review
Amerigas left tank sitting on our Property for 9 years...
Preferred solution: Full refund
Bought a house with a 500 gal Amerigas owned tank in the ground.
I bought a home with a 500 gallon propane tank in the ground. The tank had no label or contact info of any kind on it.
I called around and Amerigas claims it was theirs. I asked if they could prove it and they literally would not produce any proof. I needed propane and other gas companies refused to fill this one unless I could prove ownership so I let Amerigas fill it. The pricing is exorbitant and they are terrible about transparency on pricing.
The rep claims the price contains all kinds of things that are above and beyond just the cost of the propane.
The bottom line is if you are buying a house and there is a propane tank already there then you should investigate ownership of the tank and do your best to avoid getting locked into Amerigas. I have called around the local area (VA) and they are by far the highest priced on a per gallon basis.

- Inflated propane gas price
- Price gouging
Preferred solution: Amerigas to be forced to charge a fair price for the goods/services they provide.
Amerigas Bandits - and - How to Deal With Them
The following is the history of my horrible experience with Amerigas propane, and how I was able to remedy a terrible situation.
In December 2014 I was a customer of Amerigas. I received a fill from Amerigas (approx. 140 gallons). The invoice arrived a few days later, and, the price per gallon on the invoice was $4.289 / gallon). I called to complain about their exorbitant price.
They were very nice to send me a revised invoice, with a price per gallon of $3.799 per gallon. A bit better, but not much.
In late December 2014, Amerigas’ wholesale price was approx. $0.76 per gallon.
In mid-January I received another fill from Amerigas (approx. 140 gallons). The price per gallon for this fill was $4.059 per gallon. Amerigas’ price per gallon is going up, while their wholesale price for propane is going down.
In mid-January, Amerigas’ wholesale price was approx. $0.68 per gallon.
In mid-February I received another fill from Amerigas (approx. 200 gallons). The price per gallon for this fill was $4.329 per gallon. I called Amerigas to complain about their exorbitant price for propane. I was advised by the local Amerigas representative that “No - that’s the correct price, and you need to pay it.”
In mid-January, Amerigas’ wholesale price was approx. $0.86 per gallon.
In my estimation, a fair price for a gallon of propane during this period would have been $1.70 per gallon. That’s 2x their wholesale price.
By my estimation - the total of Amerigas’ overcharging is as follows:
Date Price/gal Gals Cost($)
====== ====== ==== ========
Dec, 2014 $3.799 140 $531.86
Jan, 2015 $4.059 140 $568.26
Feb, 2015 $4.329 200 $865.80
====== ====== ==== ========
Total $1,965.92
Valid Valid OverChg Total
Price Charge Per Gal Over chg
==== ====== ====== ========
$1.70 $238.00 $2.10 $293.86
$1.70 $238.00 $2.36 $330.26
$1.70 $340.00 $2.63 $525.80
===== ====== ====== =======
Totals $816.00 $1,149.92

So how do you deal with a thief who consistently over charges for a commodity product?
The solution I came up with was to - Buy my own propane tank, and have installed in my yard. I can then fill it with propane from any supplier, and, shop around for a better price.
A new 500 gallon propane tank cost me: $999.00
Install cost was: $198.00
New pressure regulators were: $108.00
=======
Total cost (installed): $1,305.00
The company I purchased the tank from filled it with 425 gallons of propane, @$1.169 per gallon.
Total propane cost: $496.83
Total cost for everything: $1,801.83
So for less than what it cost me in propane for last winter’s heating season, I now have a new tank and a much cheaper cost per gallon for propane.
I cannot recommend strongly enough - Buy your own propane tank.
Shop around for the best price for propane.
And kick Amerigas to the curb - where they should be.
- Customer service and price gouging

Dishonest, don't honor contract prices
Everything was fine for the first year of the contract. As soon as that expired, everything went to ***.
I was contracted at Local Area Index +30 cents. I use in excess of 3,000 gallons/year. The first bill after the contract expired (when prices had been ~1.85), I was bill almost $5/gallon. I called, they "fixed" it....
except it wasn't fixed. They kept delivering, I kept getting billed at nearly $5/gallon and they kept "fixing" it. "Fixing" it amounted to screwing it up worse, mostly, or billing me at nearly 30 cents per gallon higher than previously even though market prices were LOWER than they had been AT BEST. There were so many invoices and revised invoices and credited invoices that NOBODY knew what was what or why.
Finally, I got Ferrell Gas in here.
They told me the best they could do was 40 cents over Local Area Index, which (SURPRISE!) is magically almost 80 cents/gallon CHEAPER than Amerigas supposedly at 30 cents over.
So, now I'm stuck with a final bill from Amerigas for nearly $1,000, that should probably be a credit if the prices had been correct.
They're trying to send me to collections and their "Area Manager", Jack Martin, is completely ignoring me. He's the one who screwed all this up and the one who refuses to fix it or EVEN PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION of the price structure.

- Price gouging

- Inflated propane gas price
Preferred solution: Corrected pricing back to end of contract and proper billing/credits to my account.

Amerigas - Gas Tank Review from Vineland, New Jersey
Tank installed given check exactly for what I was told to pay 12/27/13 252$ money order not check . Then had to pay 500$1/27/14 money order in person all these transactions were in person with money orders as I was instructed at the time.
Late fees after the final bill? How when disputed. 752$in month. I switched to suburban gas 161$ install and filled 85gallons after contract was up tank sat in my yard after suburban called them to take it.
Now I had to pay for that too. Don't like trust or will order again and refer Everyone else to suburban propane. There billing system way better not done by hand.
Not told to pay on the spot in cash .... Prove me wrong now !

Should have picked up the gate if it was worth anything! And the driver would not of backed over it.
Should not blame other people for your messy yard.
You have kids put them to work and pick up or fix the gate. Hope you learned your lesson and will pick your stuff up.
