Amerigas has gone down hill!

I have been attempting to pay my Amerigas bill for 3 months. The statements do not match the online amount. When I call the 800# I get a different amount. I pay that amount - closest I am able to since the online bill pay will only let you pay fixed invoice amts. Then get thrown off their budget plan, which they charged me $150 to do. I have made calls weekly for over a month that never get returned trying to resolve this. When I finally paid off the acct today they could've cared less. Local office is awful.

AmeriGas unfair to customers and employees

I was a 7 + year employee of this company in the Southeast. I was ashamed and embarrassed how this Company treated customers, with bait and switch pricing, tank rent being charged for tanks that were sometimes unsightly, unsafe, owned by the customer illegally installed by others. I handled complaint after complaint from residential and commercial customers about unsafe equipment, unsightly tanks and in the case of L P Gas Dispensers, unsafe equipment with which to deliver fuel to the public. Customer service is totally lacking. Customer service representatives,do not know the proper Building and Fire Codes , with regard to L P Gas, safety procedures and emergency processes in case of leaks or fires. Customer service representatives and some of my counterparts were only concerned with getting new business to be the winners of a rinky *** sales contest , with no regard to Company Policy or public safety. My experience over the last 5 years was that " tell you anything to get the customer off of the phone " Special , " first fill " customer owned tank deliveries are just a smoke screen to get new business with promises that the the turn on fee is waived at the time f the first fill , then charged to the customer after the delivery. When these issues wee addressed with Division Managers, as well as a V P of safety, nothing was ever done. I even went so far as to photograph an illegal tank installation for a major grocery store chain, while on vacation in another state, which was in a Market far from my territory, to make a statement that safety, ( which is an everyday topic) is not a concern of the Company , although it is preached daily by the Company. These photos were emailed to the Regional Safety Manager, the Manager of that particular office as well as the V P of Safety in Valley Forge, in 2007 and as of August 2011,while visiting the same location this problem has not been addressed.Shop around before you decide to purchase L P Gas from this Company, demand in wrting all pertinent information with regard to service, fuel deliveries and payments. The Company is also , very slow , up to 7 to 10 weeks in processing any reunds due a customer. This is blamed on the new computer system, when in reality , it is caused by lazy " do- less" employess pasing the bust and not wanting to do their assined duties.

Regarding lazy employee's and passing the buck. I worked in Valley Forge for eight in a half years most of which in the accounts payable department. If a customer is cancelling service a good percentage of them are cancelling because they are moving. If the districts would take the extra step and get the customers NEW ADDRESS those refunds would move a little faster.Do you have any ideal how many of those refunds are returned for invalid addresses? I at one time represented the South for the A/P department and I am offended even though I know longer work there by your comments. If the customer service rep's would think outside the box those refunds would move quicker.I can also tell you even though the field refers to Valley Forge as the "Ivory Tower" those people work just as hard if not harder.

Quoted one price, charged another

My complaint is with Amerigas in Lexington, SC. I have their tank for my propane for our gas fireplace. So I don't have to pay a "rental" fee I am required to buy 60 gallons per year. I called last week and was quoted a price of $3.70 per gallon. I told them to deliver exactly 60 gallons and no more. They delivered on Saturday while I was not home. They put 86.9 gallons in the tank, left the slip, which by the way stated "deliver only 60 gallons". I called yesterday and have not had a resolution except of course the girl on the phone said she would try and get that taken care of. Today I get an invoice, not only charging me for 86.9 gallons but they charged me $3.84 a gallon! What nerve they have after quoting me one price to charge me another. I am so done with this company. I intend to make a trip to their office tomorrow and they better have it rectified very quickly. I don't care if they come and drain the tank and remove it, but I won't be paying them any *** recovery charge either. Take your business elsewhere!

AmeriGas Customer Service Stinks

Tenbrook Sales sold out or was taken over by Amerigas in Indiana in 2011 and service and fees stink now. I knew they would start charging fees, so I ran my LP tank out and called in Nov. 2011 to take my empty tank away. I was told it would be about three weeks. Two months later it is still siting there and in January they had the nerve to send me a $177 bill for tank rental for the 2013 year. I called again in January and no answer twice. Then left a message for them to come pick the tank up and still no response. Then another message to call me so we could resolve the situation, still no response, but they expect me to pay the bill because they didn't pick up the tank. I'm trying for the third time today to reach someone. Just another large corporation not knowing what one hand is doing to the other. No wonder there is an occupy movement by the 99 percent. Ticked off Indiana

Does not return calls but claim they did

In August I found out they were charging me $1.00 more per gallon than another company so I called them to discuss. Someone was supposed to call me back, after 3 wks I called again, after 45 mins on hold they told me someone called and left a message on my cell phone-a lie of course-I checked all my calls. I told them to empty the tank and remove, 3 wks later without a word, I went to their office and complained, they had me complete a waiver so they could get if I was not home, well it has been another 3 wks and still nothing.

Thank you for your response - Amerigas - but someone from your local office has finally taken care of all this - the tank was picked up yesterday, now I will see how long to get the refunds on the fuel and lock in charge

Ferrell is also about to put themselves out of business. Do a little reading on the subject.

To - You'reAFaggot

Well I guess your name says it all. I am a 60 year old widow, and do know how to use my cell phone. I also do not live in a trailer park - I live in a 3500 sq ft home and use about $5000-$6000 worth of propane a year. It is very apparent who is ignorant.

To-Question - the $1.00 less per gallon is what they wanted to charge me this year, when I did speak with someone, they said they could reduce my rate by $0.50 per gallon, but Ferrell is still cheaper and their lock is fee is about 1/3 of what Amerigas wanted.

Guest

Do you honestly think Amerigas cares about you enough to bother making up a lie? What possible reason do they have to tell you they called if they didn't?

You're obviously an impatient, ignorant ***, so it's not surprising that you haven't figured out how to work the voicemail on your new fangled cell phone yet. You probably use 100 gallons a year but think you're king of the trailer park when you call Amerigas. You're a drop in the bucket, not even worth expending the energy to lie to.

Yet you think you're so important that everyone is shaking in their boots when you call and afraid to tell the truth. Wow, get over yourself.

Is the $1.00 less per gallon there intial price or current customer rate?

Amerigas makes thier own rules..as they go

When we bought our house 2 yrs ago it had a rented tank so we went with them. At first it was okay but then my aunt and I realized we both used Amerigas and they would charge us both a different price for gas even when we got gas within a few days apart so we started watching this, and apparently they were basing the price on our usage not on just a normal price per gal charge like other gas companies charge. So she finally had her tank removed and changed companies. I was about to change and then on Oct 17 I get a rate notice change in the mail. I called the 800# and they said they were mailed on Oct 3rd and went into effect on October 21. Even though the insert clearly states in point 13 that they are to give consumers 30 days written notice. There is a date on the printed notice that they were printed on Sept 21 but clearly that is not when they were mailed they are determined to go back to the printed date of notice, not date mailed or date received. I am having the tank removed to switch to another company and they are still going to try and charge me the NEW rate fee of $100 to have this tank removed. Before the notice there was not a charge to remove the tank when discontinuing service. Trust me people of you can change companies change ASAP do not continue to do business with this rip-off company Amerigas!

You might find this surprising, but your local news station actually DOESN'T give a *** about your whiney propane problems. When's the last time you saw something on the news about some *** redneck's tank rent being removed?

Yeah, exactly. So shut up with your super original threats.

Amerigas Ripping off Customers

We don't have natural gas out where we live, so we were using Amerigas. We have been with them maybe 15 years. Well I called to get 100 gallons of gas delivered and they quoted me $4.56 a gallon. I thought maybe I would call Ferre...llga...s to find out what they were charging. They had a special of $2.45 a gallon, free delivery and free tank rental for a year. I asked ok but what do your regular customers pay? They said that for the first year it would be $3.10 a gallon if we needed more. I said great, but what are you currently charging your customers who have been with you and are not new customers. She quoted me $3.61 a gallon. So I called Amerigas and told them what Ferrellgas was charging, they told me that they could charge me $3.89 a gallon instead of $4.56. If they could do that than WHY are they quoting me $4.56. Anyway, I told them again what Ferrellgas was charging and they told me they couldn't go that low and was there anything else? I told them yes there was....come and pick up your tank!!! I then called Ferrellgas back and they are delivering the tank Thursday. I said all that to say this: IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY WITH AMERIGAS, GET RID OF THEM, THEY OVERCHARGE. CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF!!!

Overcharge, poor service

Delivery slip had one price and charged another price, but not clearly posted on bill. Second slip was the same and they said that's our community discount. How come we are not getting this discount. Informed not to deliver any more gas and they have tried twice to deliver. Claim we called and said we were empty and needed gas. Have the nerve to charge $100 to remove tanks. Was a customer years ago and changed carriers. New carrier was bought by Amerigas and the same poor service started again. Never reapplied to be customer and should not pay for tank removal.

Wow! They just told me that they were going to charge me $100 to remove the tank that they own! I'm amazed too! I haven't received the bill yet but I was told to expect it! I thought this was America and we should receive "product” for our money. Their prices were extremely excessive so I made the obvious choice. Go with a company that charges the least for the same product. What would anybody else do? Not only was I overcharged for the product but apparently they have been having troubles with too many people leaving them and now they are charging people as they leave regardless as to whether or not they delivered "competitive" product. I mean, if cost was my reason for leaving, shouldn't they be trying to improve their product and delivery instead of scalping their customers as they depart ; without any compensating product? Why do they have a department called "Retention Department". Is it possible they need this department to try to talk people out of leaving? That's what I'm thinking, what would you think?

I called them (approximately July 31, 2011) and explained that their rates were much higher than their competitions rates for my area. After trying to negotiate with them I realized the only way out was to go with their competition! I told them that I was purchasing a fresh tank from another supplier on that date. I purchased another propane tank from another supplier and had it placed parallel to AmeriGas’ tank so I could use up the propane that I just purchased from AmeriGas before hand. In September of 2011 they send out a form letter saying that they have just decided to start charging people $100.00 for picking up their own hardware. I could understand this if they had been delivering product at a competitive quality and rate. But their service is poor and their price is over the top! For example they need to have $112 as their lock-in rate. I found another supplier who would do it for $50. Their prices were considerably higher for each gallon as well. Even after the one-year introductory rate they are not competitive. This quite literally pushed me away from them! And now they feel it is ethical to charge me for removing their own equipment???? What's wrong with this picture?

As I spoke to one of their "Retention Department" managers I stated my case and asked her if she believed it was ethical. She said exactly this "it doesn't matter if it's ethical, it's our company policy". I was shocked! I asked her to say it again very slowly. And she repeated it! This is their "Retention Department ”? Unbelievable!

Additionally she told me that other gas companies were doing the same thing. So I went ahead and "Googled" "Propane company $100 to pick up tank" and guess what, you guessed it, AmeriGas came first with only one other complaint regarding a $75 charge for the same thing.

My point in general is that this charge is not a result of product delivered. This charge is a result of disappointed customers leaving because of poor product pricing, service, and delivery.

And it is just absolutely unequivocally wrong! And they need to re-examine the concept of "Customer Care". And since they are of the pioneers of this new charge I'd hope that more people will gather so the market doesn't allow it to become a protocol.

As consumers we should not be punished for leaving a service provider when we are treated badly! If we were treated well during our business together then my opinion of course would be different!

Promised a window for delivery of Propane Gas & did not show

I had approx 35% of gas left in the tank when I called Amerigas for service. I wanted to avoid any additional cost of routine tests as a result of low fuel. Six days has passed and no gas. Therefore, I called and cancelled services this morning. Kathy from the Hammond, La. office told me that there is an outstanding ticket to deliver gas to my residence. I reminded her that she told me the gas would be delivered last week and it was not. It is obvious Amerigas customer service is unreliable and I need to deal with a company that has a word.

I ran out of fuel and Amerigas can't get out here for 24 hours!

I ran out of fuel and when I called Amerigas around noon today (This is in Williston, Vermont.), they said it might be tomorrow before they get out here. It's their responsibility to keep my tank filled and it's January in Vermont without heat for a day. They mess up (Not to mention this is the second time I've run out!) and I pay the consequences. How's that for customer service? I'll be looking for a new service provider in the spring. I didn't chose them. Their tank was already here when I bought the house. It's now 58 degrees inside and it's 21 degrees outside and it's only 6 o'clock P.M. Nice way to do business and take care of your customers Amerigas!

If you live where the temps can harm you, and propane is for some *** reason your only source of heat.... then it's YOUR responsibility to check the propane levels.

This is your fault.

You should also have spare propane tanks, electric heaters, electric blankets, and warm clothing in the event of emergencies like this.

The worst part is, this happened to you before, and you did nothing to prevent it from happening again. Sad.

John N Mzy

I don't understand how you could run out of propane. You are supposed to check the tank yourself and not rely on a so-called "automatic re-fill." When you get to around 20-25% you call them up and they will come and fill the tank.

You have enough remaining in your tank to run the furnace for a few days yet till they get there. It's really your responsibility to watch the fuel levels, not theirs. Trying to shift responsibility to someone else is fruitless and just plain wrong. As an aside: you do have an emergency kit with a couple of heaters, lights, etc.

prepared for when the power and heat goes out, don't you?

I live in a very cold environment like you in Vermont and always try to be prepared for any eventuality. Bottom line: you messed up.

Amerigas - go to jail you thieves

First, Amerigas never explained or instructed you cant let the tank get below 30% before they refill....WHY? you ask....so they can slip in a $100 fee to supposedly do a leak test! Are you freakin kidding me! What a scam! Then, I lost over 10 gallons of propane in a month after the valve was closed. They told me 54.99 fee to come and check it. Today, I get a bill for $106 for ANOTHER leak test in which they said there was no leak. So, I lose 10 gallons in a month just because?? Do not call them even suggesting you are losing propane, it is just another sleazy way they charge $100. My advice TO ALL, GO WITH ANOTHER HEATING SOURCE AND STAY AWAY FROM THESE CLOWNS!!!!

Had the same problem and have asked to discontinue service back in Nov 2011 after they locked my tank - this has happened several years and I believe a scam to charge $100 fee - the contract says they are suppose to pick up their tank with in 30 days from cancellation notice - here it is Jan 12 - they keep claiming they are to busy to pick up - and sending me late notices - which I will not pay until they pick up the tank and adjust the balance owed

I also believe the Fran Customer Service person is either a hacker or bogus - I e-mailed with the info 12/14/11 & Jan/2012 did not receive a response - so wondering if a *** that once they get your account info they *** in to obtain online credit card info lined to account?????

Amerigas - Price Gouging

Amerigas says I am getting a great deal - $4.61 a gallon. So, to put 300 gallons in my 500 gallon tank, its $1,383. My propane bill averages $300 a WEEK. I ask them why so much usage and why is the price so high - they always say the same thing - "well, it has been cold outside". Raleigh NC is not THAT cold!!Insanity! I am in my 40's, live in two countries, seven states and have never had to deal with a compnay with complete disregard for its customers. I get concerned about calling anyone else as there are only a handful that do the residential delivery. Does anyone know a GOOD and REPUTABLE company in Raleigh?

If anyone is being charged prices like this you need to contact a "local" propane company owned by a neighbor in your community. The larger MLP propane companies charge excessive prices to pay large executive salaries and increasing stock holder dividends.

Guest

I've had Amerigas for just over a year. Last year when I set it up I was "locked in" at $2.09 a gallon.

When I started filling again regularly in Oct I was told I had to pay $2.65/gallon. When I asked why I was told that I did not renew my contract in may. When I set up service I had a two year contract.

They told me their contracts are only seasonal and then contradicted that by saying they would have set me up for a.three year. Now I'm at the mercy of the price fluctuations and I have to prebuy.

I live outside Raleigh and use amerigas from Garner. I have also been charged over 4.50/gal for gas this fall.

Have called multiple times since September-spoke to Sandra. Been told they would update my bill with a winback pricing. Continue to get same bill, now with late fees. After being with a company for 17 years, I dont understand what the problem is now.

However, I'm done. As of Monday they can come and get there tank!

Refused to accept responsibility for erroneous gas check.

Last fall I responded to an Amerigas propane ad for a promotion. I thought I was ordering propane but instead the tech came out December 7th and said he had to do a gas inspection before he could deliver the gas. His inspection indicated we had a leak and therefore, he said could not sell us any propane until we had the leak repaired. Our tank wasn't empty and we had never smelled gas nor had the tank gauge ever given any indication of a leak. We closed our house for the winter but left the hot water heater on as we always have. We contacted Quality Heating from Grangeville,ID, who had done our gas piping and told them of our problem and that we needed the leak fixed. They came out May 26th and after a complete and thorough inspection with digital gauges found that there wasn't any leak. June 1st I contacted Sharon, the Amerigas manager in Lewiston, and related the situation to her. She insisted that there had been a leak and refused any liability regarding the bill to Quality Heating. I called Sharon again June 13, 2011 to get her last name and address so I could properly address my letter to her. She refused to give either but directed me to her attorney in PA. She also refused to give me her attorney's address so I attempted to call her. I got a phone message that she would not be back in the office until June 25th and was not taking phone messages. June 13th I called the Amerigas national customer service line and related the problem. The representative, Ella, said she would get the letter I hand delivered to the Amerigas site and also contact Walt the marketing man, Sharon's boss, and would get back to me. She wouldn't tell me either Sharon's or Walt's last name. She said that was their policy. I was under the impression that she would be calling me back right away. After a few days with no reply I again called and talked to Ella and she said that she or Michelle would for sure call me back that day. She had given the problem back to the local office who was supposed to have contacted me. (Fat chance!) Walt called about 3 hours later. Unfortunately I was out but my wife took the call. He told her that he had heard I was taking this to Small Claims so it was out of his hands but that I would be receiving a letter from "ECC". I again called Ella and she said that I would be hearing from Michelle in legal. I did receive a letter from Michelle in legal basically stating that it was not their error and therefore, would not reimburse me for the gas check. This is not a big money matter and if I had been treated politely and considerately I would not have made an issue of it. Amerigas could have easily done that and even agreed to pay part of the bill in the interest of customer relations but that's not the way they do things. This is not a company you want to deal with.

Happens a lot in this business. The industry

uses very sensative equipment to test for leaks, and rarely makes mistakes on leak tests.

I personally have met with HVAC and Plumbing Contractors to actually point out leaks that they could not find.

Oh! I am not an Amerigas employee.

Price rate

my husband and i have been loyal customers of amerigas for the last 31 yrs. we are on the budget plan for heating and cooking. last year our budget was $136.00, this year it jumped up to $208.00. we are seniors and on fixed incomes. we live in a mobile home park and other residents use amerigas also. we got to comparing our going rate with some people here. our rate per gallon is $3.36, and one other resident pays $2.67 per gallon. they are on budget too. what gives ?? we are really upset about this. we want a lower rate too.

You could be on a budget program with a fluctuating price per gallon versus a guaranteed pricing program in which you may lock in a cheap rate for a twelve month period.

John N Mzy

Another typically not-so-bright comment from "so sad." I think perhaps his dark closet environment is starting to get to him. However, you should talk to the neighbour with the low rate and find out who it is with and then contact that company---it may even be Amerigas---and see why you can't get the same rate. At least you should get an explanation of why.
