Payment Options and cost

We were told on the phone that since our residence was owned by an individual with several properties using Amerigas that we would receive a discounted rate. They also told us that there was a 150 gallon minumum. When we got there, the man was rude...having just gotten back from lunch, and treated us with disdain and a condescending attitude. When he rang the order up, it totalled more than $325, after having been told on the phone that it would be no more than $280. It's a good thing that I had extra cash on me. The man then told us that he didn't know when the gas would be delivered, nor did he offer to call us on the day of delivery so that someone would be home. On the day of delivery, the truck arrived and after knocking on our door 3ith no answer, they left. Had our dog not started barking after they were pulling away, we would never have known they were here. We were able to call the dispatcher and they sent the guys back. This was at the Hernando, Mississippi location in November, 2009

Well we get calls about things like this frequently. If I could add to what ivlevinu2 said..

Most definitely sounds like out of gas situation, either that or he found a leak but if he completed it after it was probably just empty. That or being that you had to go pay in advance to office it could mean that you were actually locked off for non payment, which is same case you'd need to be home because interruption in service means it needs to be checked for leaks when turned back on for your safety.

Guest

I'm not clear on what you say happened. First off my experience would say ,if the owner of the properties uses Amerigas, than why are you expecting his discount? You will not get his discount unless he buys it on his account for you.

Second, the 150 gallon min purchase is not unheard of.Could the extra $45.00 be a cost to do a leak check because the tank was out of gas?

Third,You state the delivery driver knocked on your door before filling your tank. Most deliveries are made without someone being home,he didn't deliver, that's odd.You said you already paid for delivery and in all cases someone of adult age must be home for a leak check.By company policy,if an interruption of service has occurred, than a leak check must be performed. You did not answer the door ,he did not fill tank.Don't you think it strange, that he completed his job when you were home when he returned the second time?

Corporate Greed. Local Propane company feeds on the sick and elderly

On behalf of my mother-in-law, I would like to state that Amerigas can be officially labeled as a company that feeds on the old and weak. She is a two-time cancer survivor who lives alone in Howard City and is disabled because of her illness. She just scrapes by with the money and support she recieves. Amerigas came in without warning and charged her $5.84 per gallon, leading to a $1300.00 bill, and then offered her a package to lock in a rate when she called to complain. Companies like Amerigas should be boycotted out of business and their management should face criminal charges.

Hey Corporateinsider their computer system can identify cancer victims too? I thought it just identified people who where down on their luck and out of work to overcharge.

Wow that must be a real breakthrough in technology.

Just wanted to post and say that this person is completely right. I worked at Amerigas, and they have a huge computer system that keeps track of which of their customers has cancer or autistic children.

Whenever they find out once of their customers had cancer, they immediately double their price per gallon and do other things to make life difficult for that person.

Amerigas has made it their mission to do everything they can to charge cancer victims the highest possible price for propane, and their state of the art cancer tracking computer system is helping them do it! Wow!

Guest

Wow, what a bunch of *** trying to suggest a way for her to save money when she called in to complain about her $1300 bill. The nerve of some people! Let's all boycott AmeriGas and instead switch to a company that doesn't offer ways to reduce your price per gallon!

Way overcharged

These people are price gougers. Do your homework and call around. They charge $4 plus per gallon....when others charge $2.69. im so mad at myself for being suckered! We live in a very small community in GA. They hold some of these poor people out here Hostage. If you call for a delivery........you have to wait a week. One would get quicker service in a metro area. Plus then to add insult to injury by WAy overcharging the general publice. PLEASE stay away from these people. They are not ethical, consumer friendly, and are out to rip you off!

They gouge, no doubt about it. Discontinued the Amerigard, because of the "plan fee" of $8.50 per month - curious how they delivered last spring just before the new Amerigard rate of $2.69/gal compared to the old rate of $3.49 and 305 gallons (and propane prices were going down throughout the winter).

Last delivery December 09 - not Amerigard - Billed $3.89/gal, the DOE mid-Atlantic rate was $2.79

Crooks and only crooks. I offered to purchase my tank, two years ago - to get off of this asinine plan (was purchased with the house). Wanted to sell it to me for the price of a new tank - been in the ground for 20 years.

Think a lawyer will resolve this, and a jury.

Guest

I had an agreed price for $.50 over market rate from 10/09 - 10/10.

The first delivery was billed properly and then the next 2 deliveries were $.97 above market. The Norwalk, Ct.

manager decided to change the rate without notifying me or giving me the option to cancel the delivery due to the price increase.

A few of the companies in CT. are less than $2.00 per gallon without locking in the rates.

I cannot seem to get gas after calling for it.

I have been a customer since 1982 when you were suburban propane.Ihave never had any trouble untill the last six months. I never had to call for refills before now. I called on the 22nd of january for gas and now it is the 25th and I had to call again only to be told she (linda) would check with the driver to see why I wasn't delivered yesterday. I have a 500 gallon tank and use gas for heating and cooking along with gas logs. I cant see why it has become so difficult to obtain in the last six months. In the last 25 years I never had to call it was always delivered with out calling.

I would recommend that you contact the corporate office and complain. Just from personal experience, I believe this may due to the company not having enough workers to do the work and if the guys can't keep up with the work it is not their fault that the company won't hire any help or cut back their help so there is not enough employees to keep people supplied.

Then when the weather gets bad it is even worse because what they may have been able to do in 8 hours now takes them like 14 hours or longer!!!

Trust me I know someone who works for the company and they get treated terrible by customers and it is not his fault!!!! Also people should not wait until we are in the middle of a winter storm emergency to get gas!!!

Guest

We have attempted to contact the Warrenton, VA office several times to request delivery and always seem to get a busy signal and there is no way to leave a message. Our tank is below 5% so we must contact another provider.

We are now a dissatisfied customer. Please close our account.

Let an individual charge propane to my name

I own a tank for the convenience of my tenant, my own personal heating is with oil. I have no account with Amerigas in the Hazelton Pennsylvania area. They took a phone call and filled the tank for my tenant and charged the amount to my name. They now insist that I am responsible for the bill. The tenant who fraudulently called to get propane for her personal use now refuses to pay saying the account is not in her name. The company has a notice in their records that the "tenant" called and requested propane. There is nothing in the records that I authorized or set up an account for anyone to have access to the account. They are sending this account to a collection agency to get the money from me even knowing that I did not permit or use their product. The only evidence is that they have a copy of the original receipt that I own the tank located at the property.

Would be interesting to find more about this situation. There is company policy that unless it is keep full or cod they will not delivery unless the person who's name on the account is requesting it.

If it was a billable they would normally require the landlord to call and authorize if it is in his name.

Now if they had called back later and said they were you fraudulently that could have gotten delivery but there are ways to correct situation. If needed contact customer care they can usually help situation as a me diary dealing with local office management.

Guest

If I was the person in charge, the tank would be drawn off for what was put in unlawfully.I'm sure YOU are not allowing Amerigas access to the tank to either let them lock it off or let them get the proper amount of gas out. That's why you are getting the bill.It maybe your tank, but but the gas is not free, even if Amerigas made a delivery mistake.I'm not a judge,so let the courts decide.

Amerigas changed delivery schedule practices

I had trouble last year with the new delivery practices of Amerigas and they told me it just had a few kinks in it and needed some time to straighten out. This year it is still the same. Previously, local stores set their own delivery schedule. I could call in and get gas within 3 days and never worry. They efficiently and effectively grouped their daily deliveries by area. Now it goes through a central dispatch and takes over 3 weeks to get gas. I live in a rural farm area but gas trucks pass by my house regularly to get to "standard" deliveries, with daily routes inefficiently taking them from one side of the county for the first stop, to the other side of the county for the second stop and for the third stop back to the first stop delivery area. With all the "green" and "conserve" flags let alone todays economy and rising gas prices, this is just plain inefficient. Amerigas need to allow the local stores to set their own schedules if they so desire. Such inefficiency by the "largest distributor" should not be tolerated by us, the consumer! We already pay tank rental and should be given the same consideration as the larger consumers and receive gas in a reasonable amount of time after call in. Three weeks is not reasonable. If we want it sooner, they have "graciously" allowed us to pay rediculously high expediting charges and get service within a week. Big Whoop!

Over Charged

Amer-gas topped off my 250 gal tank with 150 gals. i received a bill for a little over $600.00. This hit hard. My family had really cut back on our fuel in order to keep the cost down. We had resorted to heating our home with firewood. I contacted other companies in Chino Valley Arizona and found them to be around !.25 per gal cheaper. I brought this to the attention of the local company and was told that the price was now over $4.00 a gal. Flame propane was at $2.54per gal. This is the third time I was over charged. Once I was doubled bill and was told that I did indeed receive the exact amount twice in two separate tanks. Amer-gas is a rip off and all I can say is shame on you

Amerigas website and service

I've been a customer of Amerigas and it's predecessors for 28+ years. In two of the last three years I've run out of propane in the winter. They almost made it 3 out of 4 the other day but I caught it in time. To their credit when I did run out of gas they delivered the same day within a few hours. Each of the three times their computer said I was out or negative. How hard would it to deliver at 5 to 10%? This latest time the ticket said I was on my reserve, whatever that is, for almost three weeks. The website is a joke. Try to log on without the first four letters/numbers of your account number, try "contacting" via email without your entire account number. They want you to go paperless yet you have to call them to change something as simple as your email address so they can contact you when they are billing you. Who's saving money, it's yet another green joke.

The tank had a lock put on it because noone was home when the driver came to deliver. Someone needs to be home so the driver can perform the leak and pressure test that is REQUIRED BY LAW if your tank runs empty.

You were told this, yet you failed to have someone there for the test. Rather than break the law, the only choice the company has is to lock off your tank until the test can be completed. Maybe you'd rather have air in your lines and blow up your house instead? Amerigas is so terrible for worrying about your safety OMG!

You should find another company that doesn't care about laws or safety to deliver your propane! Yeah!

Guest

Cold winter in NC. Tank went empty.

Called, left message to refill. 5 days later filled, but then put a LOCK on the tank, because it was empty, just like I told them!!!! No gas for a month, phone number busy all day, then when I leave a message, no reply. Called main office number, told them to pick the *** thing up and cancel my account.

Just got another bill for the gas, plus a RENTAL fee, for having a tank with a LOCK on it!! Will get a lawyer before I pay Amerigas another penny.

Criminal service. Beware...

I've searched their website and the web for an address so I can write a letter - remember those? - of complaint.

They don't even list a mailing address! I instructed them to stop delivery for the season, and 4 weeks later they delivered to the tune of $800+ and charged my credit card.

Amerigas refuses to deliver until tanks are down to 35% !!!!

I called to see when they were going to come and deliver gas and fill the propane tanks. She informed me that they are now waiting until the tanks are at 35% full according to their computers. Why wasn't a letter sent out to customers with this new regulation. This company comes up thru our town and delivers to my husbands employer every month; you telling me they can't side track by 5 miles and fill our tanks. There is other people in our mobile home park that uses them also. People cannot afoord to wait that long. Just come and fill them once a month.

thats right, more likely you have either 2 100#cyl or 100 gal tank. and yes you did good for calling on 35%, and yes it should be del when the drivers are in the area, and intermingle with current del tickets..

Guest

Tanks are only filled to 80% liquid max. 40% is half full, and your complaining about 5% less than half?

What's your tank size? You maybe worried over nothing. In most cases, 35% is a normal % to get a fill because hazmat fees, federal tax, county tax, state tax added on to cost of gallon of propane, is most cost effective for most customers

Guest

IT COST A LOT TO RUN THAT TRUCK IF A BUSINESS USES ENOUGH TO BE AT 35% WEEKLY ITS WORTH IT TO GO WEEKLY IF YOU LIVE IN A PARK AND USE ENOUGH TO GET TO 35% A MONTH THEY LL COME GET YOU IF YOU PAY IF YOUR A LOSER LIKE THE REST OF THESE COMPLAINERS AND DON'T PAY I AIN'T GIVING YOU GAS THATS WORTH 200.00 AND YOU PAY ME 20.00 CAUSE THATS ALL YOU HAVE YOU NEED TO GO ELECTRIC AND QUIT *** UP MY MONTHLY RECONCILIATION I HATE HAVING LOSERS THAT WANT ME TO CARRY THERE BILLS FOR 180 DAYS WITH NO PAYMENTS I WISH WE WOULD GO TO ALL RESIDENTIAL CASH IN ADVANCE AND DUMP THE LOSER CUSTOMERS GO TO A MOM AND POP AND SEE IF THEY'LL CARRY YOU FOR MONTHS WITH NO PAYMENT AND DODGING COLLECTIONS CALLS

Having to wait more than five months for refund

After choosing another company that provides better propane and cheaper price, AMerigas just played with a customer that had been reliable for over ten years, always paying on time. Now they are holding oveer $ 300.00 of my money plus refuse to pick up tank and refund what is left inside. Constantly told a different story from the call center, even their supervisors. I have never seen or dealt with a company that runs so poor. The company are the people. The people are a poor example. Guess a lawyer is my next bet. They must think the general public are ignorant. I will let anyone know who decides on propane service in the future, who to stay away from.

We are currently going through the same thing. We were on automatic delivery and ran out of fuel twice in one month.

They had to send a driver from almost 60 miles away when there is a terminal less than 12 miles away. We finally had enough when our system broke down and they continued to fill out tanks after being told not to. We waited almost a year for them to pick up our tanks and it has now been two months with no refund in sight. We called today and were told it would be 4 to 6 weeks now.

Unbelievable!! We are going to the Better Business Bureau with our complaint now.

...and I forgot to mention the manager here in Goldsboro was also out until NEXT WEEK SOMETIME. Ironic? Doubt it.

Guest

I received a shipment of LP yesterday 1-6-10. I'm only using a 100 gallon cylinder to fire up my gas logs.

It's a supplement system to my central heating system... When the delivery truck left I noticed on my receipt $3.749 per/gallon. That's about $1.00 more than I paid last time. I called a local company, Sandhill, here in the Goldsboro, NC area and they're selling their LP (Recently went up) at $2.50.

Amerigas is price gouging!!!

I've called Amerigas this morning.

They're coming to pick up their cylinder and gas. I'll go with a different company.

Guest

$4.15 in Richmond today

Guest

FYI

I just hung up with them and they quoted $2.09 regular price and $1.69 new customer price. Only add on was $9.00 for hazmat charge, plus local tax of 7% and no charge for pressure testing. We are in 45150 area code.

Amerigas Terrible Customer Relations

Amerigas has us on automatic delivery, Thanksgiving 2008 we missed a payment due to illness, they did not notify us of missed payment, although we have a telephone, and mail delivery, as well as cellphones. They "missed" a delivery in freezing weather, which we discovered when there was no heat and no hot water Wednesday afternoon. When we called for a delivery, we paid immediately on the phone, we were told that they could not make a delivery until Monday, we requested after explaining the situation and then agreed to make a delivery that day. They delivered same day, but charged $400.00 for emergency delivery. Can you believe that?? Freaking incredible, characteristic of thugs and thieves. Possibly preplanned?? I recommend not to patronize them.... We just discovered that Amerigas is much more expensive than other suppliers. We're changing suppliers..

i've been asking them for SIX YEARS to call ahead before they come and have repeated my request nearly a dozen times. they never do.

it's even written on my account info. still, they never do. again today, no calls. and do they provide any contact information apart from the "local" connection?

no.

here comes the proverbial letter to the officers in PA.

Guest

You can report them to the BBB which shows they have a GOOD rating in my area (must be paid to give them the rating because no one that I know like them). The FCC states they do not goven them but suggests I write to the Attorney General which is what I am in the process of doing. Rude responses from the people on here is good enough proof of how they treat their customers.

Guest

You didn't pay your bill, but somehow Amerigas is to blame? Sounds like you need to grow up and pay your bills on time like a responsible adult would.

And yes, there is a fee for an emergency delivery.

It costs the company a TON of money to send a truck, driver, and equipment all the way out for just one stop. You're too busy tantruming like a child to think about the cost for fuel, training, certification, insurance, salary, and a dozen other costs that are involved with make a special trip out because you couldn't pay your bill on time.

Larry,

We were sick, Wife in hospital, we are not irresponsible adults as you are so inclined to infer.. Also, the delivery had Thurs and Friday to arrange a delivery, were one regular delivery could have been slid on the time frame, during regular hours.

There was no need for after hours, or weekend delivery. Like you, they are just angry vindictive thieving arrogant sub-humans

Guest

I certainly hope that you folks remember that that comes from the people in the offices whether it is locally or from Valley Forge. They do NOT care about you as a person ONLY as a $$$$$.

AND I would recommend that you never pay your bill thru "lock box" as amerigas would want you to. There is OVER $2 million dollars LOST in that system and no one has any clue.

Can anyone spell embezzlement? And if you pay and your payment gets lost who do you think will get the blame for it?

Guest

Terrible customer relations - you got that right! My complaint is that we had service with them for 2 years and then we had 2 or 3 months last year that we were late paying our budget payment.

We have always paid them in full however! So now they "kicked me off the budget plan" and wanted me to sign some kind of paper saying that I will be responsible for letting them know when the tank is at 30% or below and that I will have to pay up front from now on.

I understand there are people out there who take advantage and never pay - but if they looked at our records they would know that we are not those people! Don't treat me like a child!

Sorry I lost my job and couldn't pay you on time for those two or three months! Geesh!

Amerigas price gouging

Amerigas corporate policy is to charge their "locked in" customers their highest price. They have trained their local managers and use a formula to "maximize their profit potential" that includes how difficult it will be for a particular customer to change companies. The poorer you are, the more difficult the switch, the higher the price they charge you. My price was $3.45 until I checked with my local company and their price was $1.99 and had been all year. They charge everyone the same price. Amerigas would not pick up my tank to begin the refund process. They still owe me $380.75 that i paid in advance. Please DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH AMERIGAS. Ahhhh, Amerigas is a nightmare. I do find it odd how they jack their prices up so much compared to others (Amerigas 3.65 down the RD 1.89, oh but wait if your a new costumer to Amerigas they will charge you only 2.01) WTF.

We will be giving them back their tank, they are dishonest and an awful company. Even if we wernt all pinching for an extra penny and the economy was booming, i still would be this ANGRY!

We have a cabin where we spend weekends. We keep the heat on 60 when we're not there and 68 when we are.

We have a 120 gal tank and are set up with auto delivery. The Amerigas is our area has been very good to us; however, their prices are twice what other companies charge. They filled out tank in Sept at 3 something a gallon; this month are bill was over $530 and it wasn't cold. Our price/gallon was $4.15.

We were never offered a lock in rate, which they have not offered us. We think there is a leak in the line because we can smell gas; guy came out and constantly complained that the ground was too hard and he was too old to be doing this. Called Americagas and told them to redo the test because we can still smell gas.

We will put in a heat pump in the spring and use the gas as a backup. They were never rude but they do price gauge.

I called Amerigas today to have my 150 gal tank filled. They said the price would be $4.00 but I could lock in at $2.25 if I paid a $65 set up fee. I argued and got locked in at $2.25 without the set up fee.

I heat my hobby garage with propane, I told the rep that it is more of a luxury than a necessity to heat my shop, and that I feel sorry for the people that HAVE to depend on Amerigas to keep their families warm.

Two years ago I went on a letter writting campaing (do to bad service) against Amerigas, letters were sent to local BBB offices, the state of Ohio attorney general just to name a few.

The power of the pen is mighty

You think $3.65 is high.... Amerigas charged us $4.60 lasat month.

I started checking around and everyone else is $1.39 to $1.89 for propane.

DO NOT USE AmeriGouge I mean Amerigas!

I was told 2 weeks ago, I would have gas in five days and it still isn't here!!!

The worst company I have ever dealt with in my life, how do they stay in business. People there are other alternatives!! We have been waiting for over two weeks and still no delivery, it's freezing in Kentucky. If your company is under staffed I'm sure there are lots of unemployed people who would love to have a job. Also, your customer service for the Kentucky area is in great need of training. Stop passing the buck and take responsibility for your mistakes. There are other companies that are able to provide propane to this area and we will certainly be giving them a call. You lost a good customer!!

Dont ever wait untill your down to 20% that makes it very hard for them to get to you. Order at the lowest of 30%. That way when they are 7 days out, they will have time to get to you before you hit zero.

I have been a customer of Amerigas for several years now. They have always taken care of me.

They have dropped the ball a few times in the past years but they have always made it right. I like a company who will do what it is right to take care of their customer.

I know that all companies will have a blip in the service every now and then especially when you have Millions of customers who demand service pretty much at the same time. The way I see it they have millions of customers and only a few complaints so that means they must do a pretty good job.

:sigh I was told to call when my tank had 20% and I always do. That don't make any defference to them ./I have waited 8 days and still no gas.
