Criminal Demands for Money Not Owed Using the U.S. Mails and Wires

We moved from our old house to one we'd been remodeling. We had paid the year of rent on the tank at the old house and it was still 2/3 full. A friend's son was now renting the place, so we didn't terminate Amerigas service donated the gas to him, after Amerigas claimed it could not pump the propane from the tank (apparently, AmeriGas hasn't yet attained the capabilities of the smaller gas companies). After we moved, Amerigas topped the tank off and sent us a bill for one hundred dollars. Since we no longer lived there, we, immediately, called and reminded Amerigas we now lived at the new address they were sending correspondence to, and we didn't desire to pay for someone else's propane. AmeriGas' agent stated she'd change the service to "will call [when needed]." After the change in delivery service, AmeriGas filled the tank yet again. It admitted we had not asked for the latest fill up (that one was only forty bucks), but could not find a record of the delivery change. Note that, when communicating with it, AmeriGas does not publish an email address on their web page. Instead, it uses a web page, but which does not allow you to create a paper trail like you can expect using regular email. At any rate, AmeriGas, being the public oriented corporation it is, and to be sure we and the renter didn't use their forty dollars of propane, padlocked the tank, denying access to the remaining nearly two hundred gallons we owned. The bills from AmeriGas might best be described as a paper roller coaster, for example: "You owe us a hundred dollars"; "You were credited for payment of the first erroneous fill, and for the erroneous second fill, so only owe us four dollars [for the second erroneous fill]"; and "You owe us one hundred twenty-eight dollars, thirty-six of which is a penalty for our incompetence." It's become obvious the "will call" means, in the corporate mind of AmeriGas, they'll presume a call was made, and they'll decide if we have to provide propane to a renter. Obviously, the only things that will help the likes of AmeriGas s are [federal] complaints under the Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations [RICO] Act for criminal acts, including violations of Postal laws for making numerous demands for money not owed, and for illegally using the United States Mail to do so (e.g., ref. 18 USC 1962, 1984, etc.). Of course, there are state regulators that are willing to consider easily documented violations of law too. To be fair, people make mistakes. However, when mistakes, such as those I've described and that show up in countless reviews found in web searches show as obvious patterns, they cross the line to criminal neglect or intent. It appears, unless the public is made aware they don't have to tolerate extortion and can make complaints to certain state and federal authorities, AmeriGas intends to stay on that other side of the line.

Amerigas driver filled consumer propane thank with 500 gallons of propane, but only 250 was authorized.

The driver told the client he might as well fill the tank because it would cost less. The client is receiving county assistance and fuel assistance as he is disabled and wheel chair bound. His total monthly income is $976. Subsequently, the additional $250 of rule was not paid for by assistance of any type and Amerigas set up a collection program of $50 per month which the client agreed to pay. But, to do so, he had to cut his food purchases so began receiving food assistance from meals on wheels, causing the payments to Amerigas to be funded by Federal money or whatever subsidy pays for meals on wheels. It would appear the driver who delivered the rule or those he reports to committed some level of wrongdoing. When I called the local provider in Brainerd, Minnesota, I left a message and was ultimately referred to the legal department located out of Minnesota. The client has since been switched from Amerigas to a local provider that is know to be trustworthy and works with local assistance agencies to provide services that do not place the client in jeopardy financially.

Takes advantage of customers

Having worked for this company in the past, I will say that they DO take advantage of the customer. They will periodically raise prices "just because." It is required of the managers to do so. For example, we raise prices on 100 people but only 30 or 40 notice it on their bill and call in to complain. So, we adjust the "complainers'" bills. There are still 60-70 people out there paying higher prices. Also, business owners would intentionally not pay their bills month to month, and instead of closing their accounts or going to collections, Amerigas would "adjust their balance." One company owned $7000 and we only made them pay about $2000. I WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. VERY DISHONEST...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Constantly run out of gas, poor customer service

We live out in the country in South Carolina and are forced to use propane heat for our home. 16 years ago it was much cheaper than electric during the winter, and we understand that fuel prices have gone up - but this company is just terrible about regularly filling up our tank.

They show up once every 3 months... well... only when I call because they let the tank run out of gas every 3 months and then they hit us with an $1100.00 gas bill that they expect to be paid in full in 30 days. Oh!

They are just great about issuing an insignificant credit - and considering the fact they run us out of gas every single year they feel this should be enough to settle our complaint. I sent an email to their customer service stating I will not be paying the total amount due in 30 days from the invoice. The amount is ridiculous, if they just came and filled the tank on a regular basis we would be able to pay the bill in full, so I will be paying $150.00/month until the total is paid in full. NOW every single day the local office calls, they never leave a message and the tank has run out and of course they will not come fill it because there is a balance due.

I called the local office and asked to speak with whoever is calling our home and the woman who answered told me she has no idea who that is. GREAT. I told her to please leave a note on my account to stop calling if this in regard to our bill, I have no intention of paying it in full, that I have sent an email contacting customer service to pay it over time since the company cannot fill the tank every month. (Did I mention that one year when we ran out of gas the owner actually asked me if I wanted to get a bigger tank?

I told him no - I just want your company to come fill the one I have! What a lazy, *** solution - sure, give me a bigger tank, charge me a lot more, and then do not come and fill that up in 4 months instead of 3). And yet... every day they still call.

We have some cold nights still, and have been happy with a space heater. I hope the next call is them threatening to the tank.

I'll be sure to put a bow on it. I will not miss them showing up in August to charge us $900.00 to "top off" the tank in the 105 degree summer heat for propane.

Ripped off

We have an "will call" plan. Their national records reflect that. But the local company sent us a bill saying that they filled our thank "thinking we have a automatic refill" plan. There is no way to verify that they refilled our tank and how much they filled, if they did. There is no way to verify that they even came. They kept sending us the bill - eventually we paid that exorbitant rate that was charged on the bill to get them off their back so we won't have to waste time on them. Fraudulent company. Should be avoided.

Poor Service and Hidden Charges

Customers Be Ware - Do not do business with Amerigas! Locallly they don't answer their phones and won't return messages. After having to pay another year of their tank rental fee $118.99, we decided to get our own tank. Had to contact corporate office, because they took the tank, regulator, lines, etc., which they had charged us for when they installed our space heater. They did give us a $25 credit for that, but NOW invoices are coming in where they charged us $39.99 for a Service Dispatch Charge to come and reclaim their tank! They have charges for everything and I would not recommend them to anyone!

Amerigas is all about Price Gouging!!!!!!

Amerigas is all, about profit and nothing about the customer. In 6 months I have gotten 3 delivieries @ 3 different prices,, most expensive being $5.75 a gallon. In calling around to other companies, noone was charging more than $4.00 a gallon. I called some friends that have Amerigas and they were all being charged different rates. When I called to address the issue w/ Amerigas they wouldnt budge on price, I was told well its a commodity so it varies on how big the tank is, how much you use, etc...I said well gas is a commodity and everybody pays the same price no matter what size vehicle you drive! Amerigas came in bought a small local company and is now ripping off the consumer. I have 3 options, continue to ripped off, an pay whatever they choose to charge, pay them a huge fee to buy the tank, or pay an even larger fee to remove the tank they say they own!! RIPOFF

You can always choose to participate in one of their pre-buy programs to make sure you don't have to worry about the high price of gas in the winter. Everyone knows the price goes up in the winter so why not cover your gas in the summer.

Because, if you do that, they will say that you used way more that you did the previous year and send you a bill for 2699.00 like I just got...yeah, that budget plan worked out great!!!!

Amerigas Will Rip You Off!

I was just trying to buy gas. They said they couldn't find the tank and fabricated reasons to make multiple trips out. They then said they were going to charge another $250 just to inspect a tank and then it would be untold amounts more - no telling, I just had to authorize more - so I said forget it. They still stuck me with a bill for over $200. When I called to complain and ask for a reduction - didn't mind paying something for a trip, but not hundreds of dollars for a residential account just to tell me it would be $250 more - the supervisor hung up on me. Totally unprofessional. You have to watch these sneaky people. I will never buy from them and am amazed companies still are managed like this today.

All they care about it reaping as much money from each and every customer they can, period. They don't care about the customer at all, they just market, market, market their product and get you to sign and then leave you in the cold. Do yourself a favor and never sign a lease or contract of any kind with this company and be sure to BUY your tank so you can source propane from multiple competitors which I will guarantee you are much lower in price than Amerigas.

Cancelled Service, Destroyed Lawn

I cancelled my Amerigas service in September 2013. I signed up for a CoOp. Prices are so much better. The CoOp gas company, installed their new tank (without issue ) and removed the Amerigas tank to the side. Now, finally, end of May, 2014, Amerigas has come to remove the empty tank. Well, the driver left 150' of 4-6" ruts in my front yard, sunk into a dry-well, backed up against a tree, and there the tank still sits, a 150' away ! I spoke witlh the local manager, who is willing to come out and take a look. I spoke with the driver the day prior, who, on the work order, was supposed to call me, owner, prior to removal. I was not contacted upon attempted removal. I estimate, well over $1000.00 of damage to my front yard !

They just don't care whatsoever...

My experience with Amerigas started out fine, and ended up pretty badly. They still haven't managed to fix the issue. Most recently, my heating unit, which is fueled by their propane gas, had not been working. I thought it was my unit itself, but after much troubleshooting and having it examined, we realized the issue was with the gas tank that Amerigas had installed. It was not releasing gas at all. I have called them 7 times and never heard a response back. I always got false promises about a "Service Manager" calling me back, but it has been nearly a week now since I contacted them and no response. They don't care. It's as simple as that. My house has now not had heat for over 2 weeks and it's been one of the coldest winters the Raleigh/Durham are has seen in a while. Prior to this, I called Amerigas well before my tank was empty, to fill up with gas, and they took over a week to get the gas to me. By that time, my gas had run out. I called when I thought it was appropriate to do so, and they just took their sweet time. Not only that, they billed me incorrectly. I had paid some money to get a fixed rate, and they have billed me much more. Terrible gas company. They have no sense of responsibility when it comes to their customers. I have now bought a whole house electric heater which works really well and am ditching the gas all together. It comes out cheaper than their EXPENSIVE gas, which they had mentioned was the cheapest (it really isn't). Also when I called, they said they couldn't get back to be because of other "Emergencies"... If my house is below 50 degrees due to them at all times, I believe this is an emergency as well. Especially with all of the money paid to them. If you absolutely have gas needs, please go to any other company than them. They just don't care, and as you can see by all of the reviews, others have had bad experiences as well. PS. If Amerigas is reading this, there is still a chance to revive my business. I haven't completely cancelled my services with them and can still return my whole home heater. I'm pretty sure they don't care to read these reviews, but better I inform others so they don't make the same mistake I did.

Price gauging on the elderly

They are overcharging at a min Of $1/Gallon compare to other propane companies and billing a 78 yr old senior $2000/month for 5 months! Can you imagine? How can a senior afford this? Previously was $1000/month but now $2000/month. Initiated the complaint on 4/8/2014 and 3 weeks and 6 follow up calls later, still no resolution. Atrocious customer service, the phone agent was argumentative, rude, unbelievable this is a publicly held company.... No call monitoring, recording nor quality assurance. They do not give out direct phone numbers for customer complaints, can't even leave a message for the manager. I understand corporate profit but the price gauging practice is unethical and praying upon the elderly is NOT acceptable! Do NOT ever use them!

Horrible customer service

AmeriGas is the worst I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I called to have my take refilled on November 11th, 2013 and was told they would be out sometime that week to fill it up. On Thursday the 15th, we called again to make sure they hadn't forgotten (which has happened numerous times before). We were told they would be out on Friday the 16th. Well, no one came to fill our tank. I called again on Monday the 18th and was told that they had no record of us calling on the first time on 11th, but they did have a record of us calling on the 15th. Again, this is not the first time this has happened. They said the would be out sometime on the week of the 15th. By Wednesday the 20th, we were out of propane, so I called Texas Star Propane and a mere 5 hours later, they had removed the AmeriGas tank, put in their tank, filled it with propane, and lit my pilot light. Texas Star Propane accomplished ALL that in 5 hours-- compare that with AmeriGas which after a week and a half and 3 calls, they still hadn't filled my tank. But that isn't the end. On November 20th, we called AmeriGas to come pick up their tank, and were told it would be 4-5 weeks before they could come pick it up. All they would tell us is that it is peak season and all of their drivers are busy. It is now January 14th, 4 weeks after we told them to pick up their tank. I just got off the phone with them and now they are saying they won't be able to pick up their tank until sometime in February. I spoke with the manager of the Pinehurst location, and I asked her for a corporate customer service number. She said the number was nothing more than a complaint hotline, and the complaint would be routed back to her. Basically, I'm getting nowhere with these people. Our home owners association is complaining about the tank, and if we are fined, I told AmeriGas the bill would be going to them. Do not do business with these people, they are a joke. I highly recommend Texas Star Propane-- they are courteous, prompt, less expensive than AmeriGas, and they know how to run a business.

Tank leaked entire contents out

Back in Spring 2012 the entire tank leaked out due to a faulty valve. They agreed the problem was theirs, but didn't give me credit for the gas. During the disagreement process, they took me off the monthly billing plan I had been on for 11 years when I bought the home. There customer service is terrible. Corporate has no clue what the local office is doing and vice versa. Since that time it has been nothing but trouble. I used to pay my bill online but the website still shows no payments. I have to call the local office each month. I was supposed to be on automatic delivery. The first of the year the tank ran out on a Friday night. I got home at 5 pm to a cold house. Had to call corporate. They said my account had been closed and refused to deliver gas to me without a $399 additional fee, a $97 hazmat fee, and 150 gallons of gas at $4.80 a gallon. It cost me $1500 for 150 gallons of gas! I complained to the local office on Monday and they did fix the problem. Of course, no one had any idea how the account "got closed". And since it was their tank, if the account got closed, why didn't they come get their tank? I had a credit balance of $800 which took two months to get returned. They tried to cut off my gas for nonpayment of the bill when they owed me money! Absolutely incredibly poor service.
