Upon my first delivery of propane, the driver examined both 120 tanks and found them to be in very good condition. He then filled both tanks with propane and proceeded to conduct a safety leak check and found no leaks or safety issues.
During the course of the test he broke a fitting or coupling and said he fixed it. He then insisted on lighting the pilots inside the house. The property owner was upset because he is liable for any mishaps or damage to the system by Amerigas drivers or technicians. He made it very clear that he (the property owner) wanted to light the pilots himself.
The Amerigas local office ordered the gas to be turned off and locked! All charges were paid for in advance by cash. The total delivered gas was also guaranteed by fuel assistance. Section 4 of my agreement allows them to turn off the gas but not to lock the tanks in this situation.
The owner has the right to turn on the gas and light the pilots himself. After the mishap occurred he ordered me (the tenant and customer) not to allow him to touch the system inside the house. The local office would not budge and even wanted me to pay another $39.99 in addition to the $56.00 already paid in fees! It's going into a holiday weekend and I will be without heat for at least 4 more days before this issue can be rectified.
The area director has been notified as well as the corporate office in Pa. If this issue cannot be resolved quickly, I will contact the Ma. Attorney General's office for resolution.
So much for my new customer experience with Amerigas. If anyone has another suggestion, please respond.
