Amerigas Charges to pick up their tank

I was informed that a letter went out in September 2011 informing Michigan customers that a fee of $100 will be charged if you discontinue their service. The fee is for picking up their tank. The problem is that I already had filled my tank and would be charge for the unused gas if they picked it up early. Plus I would lose the gas I had paid for. So now my tank is almost empty and they are tell me I will be charged. A manager was suppose to call me back. 3 days later and no call. Is this illegal???

Amerigas increased price by 50%

I have been a customer of Amerigas every since they took over Commonwealth Propane, around 12 years ago. I always paid my bill in full, and was never late. Every year, at least once, I would have to go to their local office, and argue with them over the price they were charging me for propane. This January was the final straw. My price went from $2.85 per gallon to $4.37 per gallon in one month. After arguing with them, and being informed the program I was on was no longer available, they did split the increase, and I "only" had to pay .75 per gallon increase. But they did not notify me about the program, or offer me another program in the middle of heating season. Bye-Bye Amerigas

8 yrs. customer says seeya | Amerigas review from Reston, Virginia

Was a 8 yr. customer sent a payment in full never late called for a delevery and said I couldn't get a deliver until my check had cleared. Well It's been 9 days and my check hasn't been deposited. So I couldn't get fuel to heat my home with my 2 yr. old daughter. Maybe the fat sob who does accounts rec. should get off her *** and work there are people who are unemployed and would love her job. Never again will I deal with them. P.S. I'm giving them 5 buisness days to remove there tanks before I start charging them 10.00 per day storage which they will pay in advance before I release them. Just as there policy not to deliver fuel until payment. Yours truely

Tmsfits... I have no idea what kind of tank lid you have but mine only covers the fill valve...

The shutoff and line connections are on the outside of the lid...

The lid is LOCKED.

No fill, no empty... unless you have the key or a bolt cutter...

Amerigas here, the franchiser, is supposed to check my tank - 500 gallon - on a regular schedule. The last two times I looked at the gauge the tank was at 20% and 10%.

Its supposed to be checked and filled on a predetermined schedule - it wasn't. I called the dealer who said they had a new guy on the truck in my area. She said they'd have a truck out "in a few days!" I'd be out in a few days. Heck of it is, the local dealer is closed on weekends and holidays so they can't be contacted.

I ended up having to call the national Amerigas hotline to schedule a delivery. They wanted to charge me for an "emergency" delivery. I told them like ***, this was supposed to be scheduled and wasn't. After an hour of arguing about it I got the surcharge removed.

This summer I'm switching to a local guy. I may have to pay a few pennies more but at least I'll be able to reach the guy when necessary.

I am in Florida and also use a tank about every 13-15 months and have had Amerigas fill my tank and noticed it leaking. The delivery man did not replace the top and left the check valve leaking. They refused to refund or replace the lost propane.

Can`t get gas Co. to pick up their equipment. | Amerigas review from Reston, Virginia

First request was Feburary.( remove gas and tank)Amerigas Co. Murphy,NC. Instead, they removed regulator, removed gas line and added a gas lock. I then bought the property. tank is 52years old and has 114 gallons gas.I offered retail price for the gas at the time,$1.38 per and $50 for the worhless tank,(no regulator,no nothing ) Just tank and gas. They refused by no uncertain terms. I then requested they pick up there tank and gas.I requested again, and again, and again. Question ? How do I get this tank out of my yard? It`s been 6 months and no results. Thank you Irvin Hunsberger

Tanks built in the 50's (yours 1957)were great. Thick steel, heavy duty valve ports, strong legs...

It might need scraped and paint, but is a better tank than any new model available. (unless it sat under water or buried in mud)It is easily worth about $500.00 That is why your offer of $50.00 was rejected.

If you really want it out of your yard, tell the office that you smell gas and you are sure it is leaking...and that you are going to call the fire dept. It will be gone same day if you call early.

I used to work for the corp. call center..

Unfortunately there is no way for you to get the tank out of your yard.. some customers have been waiting over 3 years to have their tanks removed. There are 2 reasons for this.. First is that there is not enough man power to get all the tanks and they have to wait for the weather to break.

It also depends on where you are on the list. Trust me I took calls from customers who called numerous times and waited YEARS. The second reason is because they are more concerned about paying customers. Seeing as I was one of the reps who would start the pick up process I do have one suggestion that might help.

Call them back an dtell them you are doing some major construction/remodeling of some sort and the tank is in the way.

Based on my experience there that seems to get the ball rolling a little faster. Good luck!
